One plan: the founding rate
Clef launches with a paid beta and a single plan. The first 50 founding members get the founding rate of $9/month (USD), locked in for as long as the subscription stays active. After the founding cohort fills, the standard rate is $19/month.
Founding members also get a direct line to the founder — feedback from the founding cohort visibly shapes the product — and their catalog requests go to the top of the curation queue.
How the trial works
- 14 days free, with the full product — nothing held back.
- No credit card required. You start practicing right away; nothing is charged unless you decide to subscribe.
- To keep practicing after the trial, add a payment method. If you do nothing, the trial simply ends. You'll get a reminder email before it ends.
What's included
Everything. There are no tiers or add-ons:
- Practice mode with per-note MIDI feedback — green when you're right, red at the exact spot when you're not. Start from any bar, with a built-in metronome.
- Memorization built on spaced repetition: bar-sized from-memory reviews scheduled right before you'd forget, plus from-the-top checkpoint run-throughs.
- Every practice take is saved — listen back in the app any time, or export it as a standard MIDI file.
- A per-bar tempo map: turn on the metronome and Clef remembers the fastest tempo you've played each bar cleanly.
- Bounded daily sessions with a completion screen, streaks, and a practice heatmap.
- The full curated classical catalog, with piece requests and voting.

What you need
A digital piano or keyboard with USB-MIDI and a browser with Web MIDI support (Chrome, Edge, or Firefox). Details are on the Getting Started page — please check them before subscribing; Clef can't hear an acoustic piano and has no mobile app.
Cancelling and refunds
Cancellation is two clicks from inside the app, through the Stripe customer portal, effective at the end of the billing period. Your first paid month is covered by a 30-day no-questions money-back guarantee — see the refund policy, which also covers the EU right of withdrawal.
Common questions
What exactly does "locked" mean for the founding rate?
The $9/month rate applies for as long as your subscription remains continuously active. If you cancel and later come back, you re-subscribe at the then-current standard rate.
What happens when the 50 founding seats are taken?
The signup button becomes a waitlist for the second cohort, which will pay the standard rate. Joining the waitlist costs nothing.
Are there taxes on top?
No. Prices are in US dollars and final — Clef is operated by a German small business under §19 UStG, so no VAT is added. Billing is handled by Stripe.
